Project's Description
Space frame design of the airport terminal building, covering a total area of 5,700m2, with only 5 internal columns. Various other reinforced concrete buildings (Fire service - Airport controller - Warehouse - Belts etc.). Landscaping of surrounding area (road construction, parking facilities, rainwater sewer etc).
After the design completion, but before the tender, the position of the terminal building, as well as the fire service building, changed; this alteration lead to the need to design some minor civil works in the surrounding area. More importantly, following the geotechical survey for the new site, a new foundation system was designed. This consists of a grid of continuous strip footings resting on a soil improvement layer, below which is are gravel piles. The foundation system is complemented by a horizontal drainage system, in order to avoid pore water pressure built up.
