Projec's Description
The main building, used as a winery, has a total area of 3700 m2 and was conrtructed in 1986-1987. It features a reinforced concrete prefabricated superstructure with a conventional in-situ concrete foundation.
Due to poor workmanship, the precast columns, beams and prestressed large span slabs form today an unstable “mechanism”. Moreover, because of excessive deflections, construction errors and creep, there is extensive ingress of water and durability problems in all parts of the structure.
Structural evaluation and strengthening were undertaken. The strengthening design focused in the following tasks: Addressing durability problems, rehabilitation of the joints of the main structural system, increasing the horizontal stiffness and replacing the building roof with a composite concrete slab, supported on steel trusses via steel purlins.
Lastly, structural design for new extensions of two auxiliary in-situ reinforced concrete buildings took place.
