Project's Description 

This is an new two-storey building with two basement levels. The top floors serve as office and archiving areas, whereas the lowest two for parking and auxiliary functions; the total area is 6500m².

An important aspect of the structure are the long-span reinforced concrete beams, designed to carry the very heavy gravity loads in the archiving areas. Similarly, long-span steel structural framing systems are found in the cultural exhibition areas. The foundation is a raft foundation or a two-directional continuous strip footing system, depending on the loads. Finally, a temporary Berlin-type retaining structure is designed, in order to allow the realization of the 2-storey deep required excavation.
