STRENGTHENING OF LYKAVITOS OPEN THEATRE, ATHENS
Projec's Description

This well-known to all Athenians theatre was designed by the architect Takis Zenetos. It is a listed building and the surrounding area has been named a historic site. It was constructed in 1965 and renovated and extended in 1977. The structural system comprises L-section trusses. There are 19 main 3-span twin truss beams which extend to cantilevers. Each beam is supported from 4 vertical truss square 85x85cm columns.

The strengthening solutions follow the principle of preserving the uniformity of the structure. The main proposals are listed below: Replacement of the weakest parts of the existing structure, sand blasting and protective coating application to both new and remaining parts of the structure, on-site checking and local repairs of the members and connections of the remaining structure, replacement of all bolts, concreting of new continuous strip footings connecting the existing footings e.t.c.
