Project's Description
The new building is placed inside the campus of Rio Hospital. It is a 4 storey building (Basement-Ground-A and B floors) of about 1800 m2 total GFA. The building has a normal rectangular plan but it is irregular in section given that the first floor cantilevers in two out of the four sides. In addition to the aforesaid , the steep inclination of the surrounding soil imposes another irregularity given that the basement is open (free from concrete walls) along the down hill side of the building.
The structural system composes from solid slabs, of relative long spans, resting on strong long beams .The beams frame in to columns and shear walls in both directions. The cantilevered part of first floor acts together with the roof as a verrendel system.
The project includes an auxiliary steel staircase and a connecting ,with the main hospital, steel corridor.
