Project's Description
The existing structure is a 4-story, poor quality reinforced concrete building, dating from 1956. It's total area is 4000m² . The plan is that, as soon as the new town hospital is built, all the administration services of the city of Kalamata will be transferred here.
First, an on site identification was carried out. This was followed by a laboratory evaluation of the materials of the structural system. Then, a preliminary study was performed, assessing the seismic performance of the existing structure. Based on this initial analysis, ideas for the upgrade of the structure, according to the current Hellenic Seismic Design Code, were proposed. According to the final design solution, wall jacketing would be applied to the perimetrical solid masonry walls and to the existing concrete shear walls. Moreover, new shear walls, connecting existing columns would be introduced. All analyses were carried out using ETABS. (http://www.csiberkeley.com/products_ETABS.html)
